John N. Gardner Institute for Excellence in Undergraduate Education

What Does G2C Include?

Structured Course Analysis and Redesign Process
You’ll work with the Gardner Institute to collect historic data analytics, survey data from current students, and other institutional and course-level forms of evidence to obtain a new in-depth view of who does and does not succeed in your gateway courses. Faculty led course committees will then work with the Institute’s gateway course self-study framework to interpret and apply the evidence to create a powerful course redesign plan.

Teaching and Learning Academy
You will join face-to-face and virtual workshops to study, learn, and apply evidence-based practices and engaging pedagogies as part of your gateway course redesign efforts. Work will occur in discipline-specific and cross-discipline groups. This part of the G2C process begins during the first year of the effort and spans the lifetime of the project.

Analytics in Pedagogy and Curriculum
This part of the G2C process helps a team of faculty and staff come up with an answer to the question, “So we have a dashboard, now what?” Specifically, gateway course faculty, institutional research staff, student success professionals and other campus leaders will work through structured exercises during the first year of the G2C process to apply analytics and guide early intervention in their courses. G2C’s Analytics in Pedagogy and Curriculum component includes both tools and the processes needed to guide early and frequent feedback–elements that are vital to improving student learning and outcomes in gateway courses. This part of the G2C process begins during the first year of the effort and spans the lifetime of the project.

Community of Practice
In this part of the G2C process you will share with and learn from faculty and staff from the wide array of other participating G2C institutions. The formal G2C Community of Practice structure includes a face-to-face annual meeting, periodic virtual meetings as well an array of process webinars and discussions that maximize the dissmenation of promising practices and wisdom across G2C cohorts and institutions. This part of the G2C process begins during the first year of the effort and spans the lifetime of the project.
