Dr. Marion Stone is an Independent Consultant of Higher Education in Kansas City, MO. She previously served as the Director of Academic Support and Mentoring and the Executive Director of the International Center for Supplemental Instruction (SI) at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Trained as a counseling psychologist, Dr. Stone has worked in the area of academic support for nearly 20 years. Dr. Stone has worked extensively with Supplemental Instruction (SI) and Video Supplemental Instruction (VSI), as well as with numerous other academic support programs, including TRIO Upward Bound and Gear Up grant programs, the Americorps JumpStart program, math and science onsite and online tutoring programs, pilot Summer Bridge and Reading Enhancement programs, and others. As a Certified SI Trainer, she conducted hundreds of SI training workshops and leadership exchanges in Kansas City and across the country, and also helped coordinate the SI International Conferences, held on a bi-annual basis.
SI Publications edited by Dr. Stone include the third edition of Supplemental Instruction: Improving first-year student success in high risk courses (2008) and Supplemental Instruction: New visions for empowering student learning (2006). She has also presented on SI at numerous conferences including the John N. Gardner Institute’s Gateway Course Experience Conferences and Retention Symposiums; the Conference on the First-Year Experience; the Noel-Levitz National Conference on Student Recruitment, Marketing, and Retention; NCLCA conferences; and the NASPA Assessment and Retention Conference, amongst others. Dr. Stone conducts numerous webinars and is a frequent keynote speaker on the national education circuit.
